A fantastic plan in Segovia! Legendary lace at the Royal Site of San Ildefonso
Hello, adventurous families of El Mundillo de Eva!
Already planning your next weekends? Today I'm bringing you a plan that's pure magic, one of those that makes us travel back in time without leaving the place, and which also takes place in one of the most beautiful and real from all over Spain. If you love traditions, handmade art, and fairytale settings, book the 30 May 2026 Saturday!
That day, the impressive Royal Site of San Ildefonso, in Segovia, becomes the setting for a unique and colorful event: the 18th Lace Makers' MeetingImagine! Hundreds of women (and surely a few men too!), experts in the art of bobbin lace, gather to weave together under the Segovia sky, with the majestic Royal Palace in the background. A spectacle for the eyes and the soul!
🧵 What's so special about this Lace Makers' Meeting?
It's much more than it seems. It's not just a group of people making lace (which is impressive in itself because of the skill and patience it requires). It's a festive day, a day of togetherness, sharing tips, laughter, and above all, keeping a centuries-old tradition alive.
Live art: You'll see the lacemakers at work with astonishing skill. Their hands fly, moving the bobbins and crossing threads with a precision that seems like magic. It's mesmerizing to watch how, from that apparent chaos of threads and pins, lace, doilies, collars, and other marvels emerge—true works of art. A perfect opportunity for children to see the value of craftsmanship and patience!
An incredible atmosphere: The energy here is contagious. Joy, camaraderie, and immense pride in their art. You're sure to find stalls where you can see (and maybe even buy!) unique pieces, materials, or simply chat with the artists. Don't hesitate to ask them questions! They love sharing their passion.
The perfect setting: The gathering takes place outdoors, probably near the Royal Palace or in a central area of the town. Seeing all those colorful yarns and cushions in a place with as much history and beauty as La Granja is simply magical. The photos you take will be prize-winning!
And the best part: The schedule is ideal for enjoying it as a family. They will be there. 10: 00h to 14: 00hSo you have all morning to stroll around, explore, and soak up the atmosphere. Plus, registration for participants is only €3which gives us a clue that it is an accessible and popular event.
🏰 And then… Enjoy the Farm!
But the plan doesn't end with the meeting. Not at all! Being in the Real Site of San Ildefonso It's the perfect excuse to spend the whole day there. This corner of Segovia is pure wonder!
What can't you miss?
The Royal Palace of La Granja: A must-see! It's a Baroque gem inspired by Versailles. You can visit its halls decorated with stunning tapestries and frescoes. Kids will love imagining stories of kings and princesses! 😉
The Gardens and the Fountains: This is the most spectacular part! Miles of French-style gardens with sculptures and, above all, their famous monumental fountains. If you're lucky enough to be there on a day when the fountains are running (check before you go, as it's usually on special dates), get ready for an amazing water show! If not, simply strolling through the gardens is wonderful. Look for the maze; kids love it!
The Royal Glass Factory: Another super interesting visit. You'll be able to see how glassblowing is still done by hand—it's amazing to see them mold the molten glass with fire! There's also a museum with beautiful pieces. A very educational and visually appealing outing!
Strolling through the village: The Royal Site is beautiful, with its cobbled streets, stately homes, and elegant atmosphere. Lose yourself in its hidden corners, discover little shops selling handicrafts and local products (don't miss the famous Judiones de La Granja! 🤤).
Hiking or relaxation: If you prefer something more natural, the surroundings are ideal for a short walk along the nearby trails. Or simply sit on a terrace and enjoy the atmosphere and a refreshing drink with a view.
💡 Tips from "Eva's World" for your visit:
Arrive early: The lace-making gathering starts at 10:00 am and there's usually a lively atmosphere from the beginning. This way you can enjoy it at your leisure before it gets too hot or crowded.
Comfortable clothing and footwear: You'll be doing a lot of walking! Whether you're watching the match or exploring the gardens, comfortable shoes are best. And don't forget hats, sunglasses, and sunscreen if it's a sunny day. ☀️
Book in advance: If you plan to eat at a specific restaurant or visit the Palace, I highly recommend booking in advance, especially on weekends! La Granja is usually very busy.
Optional picnic: If the weather is nice, a great option is to bring a picnic and enjoy it in one of the designated areas of the gardens or nearby. Kids love it, and it's more economical!
Shipping cost: You can go by car (there are designated parking areas, although they fill up quickly) or by bus from Segovia city (the regular M8 line stops in La Granja). Check the timetable!
Camera ready!: The vibrant atmosphere, the Palace, the gardens… You'll want to take photos everywhere you go! Make sure you have enough battery and storage space. 😉
In summary, families, the XVIII Meeting of Lace Makers at the Royal Site of San Ildefonso It's not just a craft event, it's the perfect excuse to enjoy a wonderful day in a magical place! Art, history, tradition, and fun for all ages. We wouldn't miss it for the world! Are you in?
