Pamplona is dressed in thread and tradition: 12th Craft Fair and Lacemakers' Meeting
On June 8, 2025, Pamplona becomes, once again, the epicenter of textile craftsmanship with the long-awaited 12th Crafts Fair and Lacemakers' Meeting, organized by the group "Encajeras de Navarra", in collaboration with the Pamplona City Council. The event will be held at the Bulwark, from 10:00 a.m. to 13:30 p.m., and promises to be a morning full of tradition, color, and wise hands dancing to the beat of bobbin lace.
This meeting is not just a fair, but a living tribute to an ancestral technique that has crossed generations and borders: bobbin laceThose who have attended previous editions know that there is more to this than craftsmanship: there is love, community, and a passion woven together stitch by stitch.
A lace tree that unites us
This year, the poster image is especially significant: a majestic lace tree, with its multicolored leaves created with the finest threads and its trunk woven with moving skill. Each leaf, like each lacemaker, represents a distinct voice, a unique style, yet together they form a unity that grows and flourishes with strength. A precious symbol of what happens at this gathering: the union of many hands in a single art.
In addition to the exhibition, there will be live demos, where the public can observe up close the delicate and meticulous process of bobbin lace. From beginners to veterans, everyone shares techniques, tricks, and smiles.
Pamplona: Beyond Lace
Pamplona is also the perfect excuse to enjoy a city that, in June, bursts into life. Just a month before its famous San Fermín festival, the Navarrese capital shows off its most serene and welcoming streets. Strolling through the Citadel, have a coffee in the Castle plaza or tour the the Camino de Santiago as you pass through the old town, it is a treat to give yourself an unforgettable experience.
And if hunger strikes - as it often does after a morning at the fair - you shouldn't leave without trying some good ones. pochas a la navarra or a tortilla pincho in one of the bars in the old town. Pamplona has that delicious balance between the traditional and the modern, between the rural and the urban, which makes it special.
The value of handmade
The Fair is also a vindication of the value of craftsmanship in a world dominated by the immediate. Each piece of lace tells a story: that of a grandmother who taught her granddaughter, that of a lacemaker who learned to make lace on her own, that of a group that meets every week not only to make lace, but to share life.
And let's not forget that the Baluarte event also serves to highlight other textile artisans, who often accompany the event with stalls selling hand-dyed fabrics, frames, threads dyed with natural plants, and even kits for learning from scratch.
A morning with soul
So, if you're in Pamplona on June 8th, don't hesitate. Come to the Baluarte and let yourself be enveloped by the rhythmic sound of bobbin lacing, the murmur of conversations among lacemakers, the colorful threads, and the passion conveyed without words, but with threads.
Come celebrate that handmade craftsmanship lives on, that tradition is not at odds with the future, and that, as long as there are hands willing to weave, there will be gatherings like this that will reconcile us with beauty, slowness, and authenticity.
