Acebo celebrates the art of lacemaking with its 9th Lacemakers' Meeting
On the bright morning of September 6th, Acebo, one of the most charming villages in the Sierra de Gata mountains, will transform into a vast open-air workshop, paying homage to the delicacy, patience, and tradition of bobbin lace. The Plaza del Álamo will be the epicenter of the 9th Lacemakers' Meeting, a day that will bring together artisans and lace enthusiasts from across Extremadura—and beyond—to share their work, techniques, and above all, their passion.
A morning to share a passion for lacemaking
The program will begin at 9:30 a.m. with accreditation and breakfast at the bars. This will be a time to greet fellow lacemakers, prepare materials, and settle in before the bobbin lace-making begins. At 10:00 a.m., the work will officially commence, and the square will be transformed into a large open workshop where each lacemaker can showcase her work and enjoy the atmosphere.
One of the highlights will be a guided tour at 11:30 a.m. It's the perfect opportunity to take a break from the usual activities and learn more about the town hosting the event. The program continues at 14:00 p.m. with a prize draw and concludes at 14:30 p.m. with farewells and the end of the day.

What to see in Acebo after the meeting
Afterwards, it's worth setting aside some time to stroll through the town center. Among the stone, adobe, and wood houses, you'll find tranquil corners that preserve the character of the Sierra de Gata. One of the highlights is the Church of Our Lady of the Angels, declared a Site of Cultural Interest. Its solid ashlar architecture and the main altarpiece inside make it a highly recommended stop.
Weather permitting, the natural pool of Jevero, located about two kilometers from the village, is another popular spot in the area. Its waters and the surrounding greenery offer a welcome change of pace after a morning in the town square. From this area, trails also begin leading to the Acebo River and the Cervigona waterfall. For longer hikes, it's advisable to check the route beforehand, bring water, and wear appropriate footwear; the mountain terrain requires more than just comfortable sandals.
